I see this all the time with teams. At the beginning, it feels productive. Things are going live, work is getting done, and there’s momentum.
Then things start to fall apart.
Pages don’t connect, data gets messy, systems don’t work together. What looked like speed turns into rework. Instead of building forward, teams start fixing what they already did.
It’s not an effort problem. It’s a structure problem.
We’ve seen it ourselves. When we skip setup, we end up rebuilding. When we take the time upfront, everything runs smoother and builds on itself.
The hard part is that foundation work doesn’t feel like progress. There’s nothing to show right away, so it’s easy to skip. But whatever you skip early shows up later as friction.
A big part of this is the tech stack. Not about having the best tools, but the right ones. If your platforms don’t scale or connect, you’ll feel it fast. You start adding workarounds, and those become your system.
When the foundation is right, things change. Work connects. Systems support each other. You can build without breaking everything else.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be intentional.
The teams that grow aren’t the ones that move fastest at the start. They’re the ones that build something solid, then move fast on top of it.
