Marketing doesn't fail because the copy's bad or the design's dated. It fails because the company behind it doesn't actually know what it is, and no amount of polish covers that up. People can feel the difference between a brand that knows itself and one that's guessing.

It means being specific about who you are, what you offer, and who it's for, and cutting away everything that sounds good but doesn't mean much.
